While the inspiration was there I decided to tackle Plumbago as a partner for the Barleria drawing. I was a bit apprehensive of all the detail but of the 2 it’s my favorite. Both these will go into the Plumbago room in the bed and breakfast.
Plumbago is one of those hardy, reliable and useful scrambling shrubs that is a real bonus for any gardener. Their delicate blue and sometimes white flowers bloom generously for a long time on and off and are loved by butterflies – they are a host to the blue butterfly ‘Cyclirius Pirithous’. Their are 5 species of Plumbago in SA and they are found in all the provinces. They are easily trimmed and trained into topiaries and hedges, or if left, will scramble up a tree or fence.
